Scarcity of an item like the Crystalline Sword is what's responsible for these types of scams. C'mon ANet! Give us a Crystalline Sword Day where they're as common as Raven Stave drops. :P
Seriously, if it sounds too go to be true then it is!!! Anyone who tries to sell you something valuable with all kinds of conditions or in an unconventional manner is a SCAMMER! Just walk away and report them to ANet.

Another thing is that like most cons he probably relys on people being too embarassed to admit they have been had. Back in Diablo 2 when I used to pay there I had a friend that got scammed out of all his stuff and rather than admit it he swore he had glitched armor and weapons when he was in fact running around naked.

If I'm not mistaken then it would go something like Sundering Crystalline Sword of Swordsmanship: 15-22 (req8), sundering10/9, swordsmanship +1 while using a skill 18% chance with +15% while hp above 50%. I believe Crystalline swords are long swords with a different skin as well. Personally I think this paying a fortune for looks is a bit extreme. In some cases not even, I had one person tell me in game that the butterfly sword I was selling was over priced but wouldn't be if it was a wingblade. They have the same skin! If I wanted a long sword with mods and bonuses like that then no way would I spend 100k + for a sword that is Crystalline when I can spend 75k to get the exact same sword (stat wise) with just a different look.
When you get your weapon customized then you should be given a menu of skins your weapon can look like. You then simply chose the different skin or close the menu if you like the one you got. Don't even try to come back with "then everyone would have weapons that look the same" either. Not everyone has the same tastes and therefore not everyone will have the same skinned weapons. Not everyone uses the same kind of weapon either (as in not every warrior uses a sword) and you'll always have people who want their character to look as unique as possible and will therefore chose a skin noone else seems to be using. You will always have variety as seen now.

That would rather defeat the purpose of drops now wouldn't it. If you could customize your weapon and choose what it would look like why would anyone bother with PvE. PvE is a treasure hunt for many that play (seriously how many times can you do the same missions and call it fun).
There is one crystalline scammer in LA dis1 that shows up all the time. He does "cash only trades" it would be nice if Anet had someone that hung out in LA to catch people like this.

Well what are you supposed to do with the millions you have sitting around storage? Some people can afford it and will buy it. Personally I'm going for FoW armor on my Ranger because I think it looks tons better. It also gives me a goal. I have every skill for Ranger and Monk unlocked. I have every rune and weapons upgrade unlocked. Really don't care about the other skills although I am slowly unlocking them. I need something to save for. But I can see your point and I think it just depends on the player.

The scammer (which has been discussed in numerous threads) is Dragoan Slayer (R/Mo) who probably has several different accounts and most likely not using his/her main. He/she also baits w/ a 14^50 R8 Crystalline.

Edit that, or a mod will.
Don't post names, it's against the rules here.

Defeat the purpose of drop? Are you kidding? Um the weapon with stats like that would still have to drop before it got customized. You must be a PvP person because not everyone is like you playing PvE just to unlock stuff for PvP. Some play for the actual rp in rpg (or as close to it as possible in GW) playing through and enjoying the story. Plus you would still have to get the drops to unlock.
Edit: If this guy is a proven scammer, post the name (post all their account names) that way everyone can watch out for them and not get scammed.

I know the names but also know the rules about posting them
The fact this individual is still doing this after a few months makes me think Anet should camp LA and resolve it.

Food for thought ... there are maybe 10 15>50 crystallines and around a million 15>50 wingblades. The skin does matter and it doesnt matter if PvP or PvE on this one. I am both PvP and PvE ... I have been through the game 6 times sorry if I don't find the storyline riveting at this point.

The skin does matter and it doesn't matter in PvP or PvE. What? Isn't that an oxymoron? You still haven't given a legitimate explaination as to how an option like that at the weapon crafter would increase/decrease the frequency of drops that have maxed stats. Gold weapons with max stats would be just as rare as they are now, nothing would change drop wise.
There is alot that goes on in this game that anet seems to be unaware of. How many people do they have as admins monitoring the different places and districts? How many of them are out to look for people beaking any of the rules or just certain ones?

The operative word you missed was IF. Since you stated I must be a PvP person I pointed out it does not matter IF you play PvP or PvE on this one.
The Crystalline is rare and KEPT rare by the drop ratio. Anet wants this item to remain RARE. If any slug could take a junk 15>50 wingblade or spatha and have it customized to look like a crystalline ... what would the point be of having different skins on the drops.

So why not have all weapons and such drop as a default skin? Well the skin would still depend on the enemy who dropped it. Mursaat hammers would have to come from mursaat or chests where mursaat are one of the enemies (just an example).
The change of skin can be made with a price and may even require an item of some kind from the enemy. For eg. 5k + 10 mursaat tokens given to a weapons crafter (only in a town after an area where you deal with mursaat) can give your horn bow or hammer a mursaat skin. That way you can save yourself the money and/or time of getting the money and items if you either buy the weapon from someone (current situation) or get it as a drop (current situation). That way there is still a point in having the different skins on the drops.

I think I've heard this somewhere before.
What about crystallines? They don't drop from any specific mob, and a good lot of them come from HoH. How do you justify that? Give the merchant a few celestial sigils?
This sounds like an accusation of "unfair!" Well, tough. The rare drops are only rare because they drop rarely. If ANet brought in this skin system you're proposing, the market would hemmorage. Imagine it, shadow bows are worth nothing. Mursaat bows are worth nothing. Heck, I'll just go get a collector's longbow and customize it!
If you're really so mad about not being able to have a crystalline, go get the sword from pre-sear with the same skin.
To sum it all up:
Quote:
The change of skin can be made with a price
|
That's the same system we have now, except it promotes WAY less interaction between players, and cuts down on the fun of investing time into the game. What's the point trying to think up a skillful way to win HoH and get a shot at a sword from a chest, when you could just customize a junk sword?
[edit]Ontopic, I think the fact that the sword is so nice should make it painfully obvious to anybody wanting to buy it that it's a good scam. Any serious seller would not have a problem with ecto, shards, or other commodities. Unfortunate, but it shows that letting you guard down can get you hurt in this economy.
